My experience includes setting up small counselling
services at two agencies in Surrey, offering support to people with a visual impairment and also to those living in temporary accommodation.
I also have experience and specific training of bereavement and loss, and have worked in counselling those adversely affected by problem gambling for several years, including at a residential centre for problem gamblers in Kent.
In 2006 I was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Roehampton University. I was also awarded in 2001 a Foundation Certificate in Psychotherapy and Counselling from Regent’s College, London.
In 2009 I became a full member of the Surrey Counselling & Psychotherapy Initiative (SCPI). In the same year I completed a certificated course at Wimbledon Guild concerning Attachment through the Life-Cycle and in 2008 I completed a further certificated course at Wimbledon Guild in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for counsellors already trained in another modality. In 2006 I completed the Bereavement Care Introductory Training Programme in Bereavement Support with CRUSE and in 1999 I obtained a Certificate in Imagework: Life Choices, Life Changes (Part 1).
I am a Member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), and abide by the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and the Ethical Guidelines for Researching Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am subject to the Professional Conduct Procedure. Copies of these documents can be found on the BACP website.
I am person-centred in my way of working, using an integrative approach including psychodynamic, existential, postmodern and cognitive approaches where I feel that these may be of benefit to the client.
I am interested in loss in all its forms, and also the creativity within us, sometimes working with a variety of creative approaches within my work where these may be helpful (for example Native American medicine cards, Blob materials, soft toys, Russian nesting dolls and art materials).
